OVERVIEW:
WNYC/New York Public Radio’s industry-leading Data News team is seeking a Senior Producer to organize its efforts and maximize the impact of its work. The Senior Producer will be the team’s air traffic controller, working with the Senior Editor for Data News and Technology to set project priorities, manage resources and then maximize the reach of those projects. He or she will be the Data News team’s lead contact for internal and external collaborations and will work closely with the business departments of New York Public Radio to build innovative ways to extend the team’s work. He or she will have the instincts of a journalist, the operational skills of an adept project manager and the fresh ideas of a disruptive marketer. The Senior Producer will also guide the packaging and presentation of the most important digital projects of the WNYC Newsroom. The position reports to the Vice President for News.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage projects
- Field project requests from NYPR editorial and administrative departments and allocate time and resources for them
- Track progress and keep stakeholders informed, including through a regular internal note on current and upcoming projects
- Monitor bug-tracking system for issues needing attention
- Serve as a backstop for QA review
- Ensure each completed project is distributed most effectively on digital and social media platforms, including innovative and emerging channels
- Work closely with WNYC staff to ensure maximum effective radio exposure for each project.
- Coordinate with external contacts
- Obtain and manage inventory of hardware for sensor projects
- Serve as team’s ambassador to other media in collaborative projects
- Direct logistics for events in outside venues
- Coordinate with internal departments
- Development/Membership - Help in seeking grant and foundation support.
- Develop, manage and execute innovative ways to leverage Data News into donations and membership.
- Develop mechanisms for using Data News to build the station's list of email contacts.
- Underwriting - Keep underwriting team informed of upcoming projects and explore opportunities for capitalizing on projects.
- Greene Space - Direct logistics for events in NYPR’s Greene Space performance venue
- Promotions/Publicity - Keep the on-air and newsletter promotions team up to date on the best and most current Data News projects. Coordinate team interviews and appearances, particularly around major projects.
- Legal - Help solve issues about licensing and redistribution of Data New work.
- Finance - Help craft and track the Data News budget
- Human Resources - Facilitate and expedite hiring. Make and maintain candidate pipeline.

- Demonstrated comfort working in a fast-paced team
- Impeccable journalistic integrity and editorial judgment
- Ability to manage several projects concurrently
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Five years of experience in journalism preferred

- Affinity for New York Public Radio; WNYC and/or WQXR content and mission a plus
- Compliance with WNYC/WQXR policies and guidelines
- Ability to work extended hours as needed
