Girl Scouts and Neo

July 2019

Women@NEO is a group of women who work at NeoGenomics and are committed to elevating women in the workplace. In fact, women comprise 47% of manager level positions and above within the Neo organization.

Therefore, when the opportunity for a partnership with the Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida presented itself, NeoGenomics gladly joined forces. Immediately, we knew our mission—to provide girls within the community with a first-hand experience of what it means to work in a clinical laboratory.

From this mission grew an exciting program slated for Saturday, October 5, 2019, in which girls in grades 4–12 will spend the day at NeoGenomics for a first-hand experience of how cancer is diagnosed and what it means to work in a clinical laboratory. Hematopathologist at NeoGenomics, Dr. Mojdeh Naghashpour, M.D., Ph.D., will teach how doctors/oncologists use a clinical laboratory to better understand how to medically treat their patients with cancer for the best possible outcome. Clinical Laboratory Technologist at NeoGenomics, Joni Gordon will provide a testimonial on how her passion for science and helping others led her to career and what steps she took to get here.

This partnership not only allows NeoGenomics to open our laboratory to young minds within the community, but it also exposes young girls to careers in the sciences while showing them real-life role models of successful women in the workplace.
