How NeoGenomics Supports a Mid-Career Change: Heather’s Story

Heather, a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the Bio-Pharma Group, wasn’t always on this career path. However, after she discovered her passion in the lab, she knew she had to return to school to get her license in order to move into the field of molecular biology. Around the same time, NeoGenomics opened a lab in Houston, TX—which is exactly where Heather lived.

“I did my research and I looked at how Neo worked in the industry. They are one of the frontrunners as far as leading technologies in science and at making those applications. Once I heard about NeoGenomics opening a Houston lab, I was elated to apply for a position in the brand-new lab they were starting.”

After joining the team and receiving support from the people around her, Heather knew it was the right time to pivot into her new field and credits the culture at Neo for helping make that happen.

“Here is a company that I believe in, who is affording me the opportunity to move in a different direction—that is what I feel passionate about, that I want to continue to learn and continue to move with the technologies that are being developed. Once you’re in NeoGenomics, they offer countless ways to support you as an individual human being, as well as person in your field." 

Having been in the laboratory for some time now, Heather realizes that her career at NeoGenomics might be dramatically different somewhere else.

“I’ve been working with NeoGenomics almost 2 years now. It is about integrity, but it’s also about being personally relatable to your employees, to your doctors, to your patients. I might be working in the lab, and I might just be working with a sample, but I know that what I’m doing is having great impact to a person. Quality is stressed from the very, very beginning—it sets us apart from other labs.”
